 Summer is nearly here, and that means it’s time for RCPL’s Annual Summer Reading Program.

Participate in weekly events, track your reading to earn prizes, and encourage reading and education through this summer-long program!


 
Registration:

Begins on May 29 during normal Library operating hours.

If you miss registration week, don’t sweat it! RCPL is accepting registrations all summer long for the duration of the program.

Baby Programs:

SR Baby Sensory Program –
 Saturday, June 30, 10 am – 12 pm (Ages 0-18 months)
Bring your baby to the Library to feel, smell, touch, and to listen to a variety of objects.
This program is designed for early child development and learning.  

 

Teen Programs:

  • STEM “Build Something!” – Wednesday, June 20, at 5 pm (Ages 13-15)
  • Blacklight Blackout – Thursday, July 5, at 6 pm (Ages 13-18)
    Teens can rock out at this cool program! Join us for a black light party with games, glow sticks, food, and music! 
  • Cupcake Wars – Wednesday, July 18, at 5 pm (Ages 13-15)
  • Teen Anime Night – Wednesday, June 6, at 5 pm (Ages 13-18)
  • Game Nights – Wednesday, June 13 and July 11, at 5 pm (Ages 15-25)

If you like crafts and painting… join us for an adult Summer Reading craft night at the Library! 
All materials provided. FREE PROGRAM. Registration required – Register at the Library or call (606) 784-7137

  • Canning Rocks! – Thursday, June 14, at 5 pm
    Make fresh salsa at this adult program led by the Rowan County Cooperative Extension Office. 
  • Upcycle CD Coasters Craft! – Thursday, June 21, at 6 pm
    Reuse your old compact discs at this craft program!
    Please bring 4 CDs or DVDs for your craft.
  • Country Musician and Comic: Grandpa Jones – Thursday, July 12, at 6 pm
    Join us for a Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua with your favorite “Hee Haw” actor! 
  • Music Trivia Night – Thursday, July 19, at 6 pm
    Enjoy popcorn and refreshments while testing your knowledge of all things music related!
    You may win the prize drawing!

Family Events:

  • Cambo the Clown – SR Kick-off Program – Friday, June 1, at 5 pm (Family Program)
    Join us for an evening of silly jokes, nonsense, and balloons with your favorite clown, Cambo!
  • Revisit the 60’s on Tie Dye – Thursday, June 28, at 6 pm (Family Program)
    Listen to some groovy tunes and tie-dye a tee! Location: Top parking lot across from the drive-thru entrance.
    Please bring a white cotton T-Shirt or light colored item to tie-dye.
  • The Fantastic Bubble Bug Party – Friday, July 13, at 5 pm (Family Program)
    Join us for a bubble party!
    The Bubble Bug, LLC will be providing loads of bubbles for fun entertainment!
     Location: Top parking lot across from the drive-thru entrance.
  • SR Family Movie Nights –  (Family Program)
    Watch a movie while enjoying fresh popcorn and snacks.

  • Finale Picnic (TBA) – Thursday, July 26

The Finale: BRING YOUR READING LOGS! (ALL AGES)

RCPL Summer Reading will culminate in a finale of great prizes and fun on (Thursday, July 26). Groups will meet at their normal times to select their prizes for reading.*
Then, at the end of the day, everyone will gather at (TBA) for hot dogs, chips, drinks, and snow cones during our Summer Reading Finale Picnic from 6 – 8 pm.

*Please Note: Prize distribution for young readers, ages 0 – 36 months, will meet on (TBA) at 10:15 am for their prizes.

Adults may choose prizes anytime from 11 am – 3 pm on the finale day, (Thursday, July 26).

SUMMER READING REGISTRATION FORMS
You may register for Summer Reading by visiting the Children’s Area and filling out a registration form at the Library or select one of the forms below, print, fill out, then bring your completed SR form to the Children’s Area.
