Economic Hardship

Did you know that over one quarter of Rowan County citizens live in poverty? There are many complex factors that combine to create an economy in which some people are left behind—often far behind. It might not solve the problem, but it may help to know that if you fall into this category, you’re not alone. Thankfully, there are resources available in our service area for helping people get back onto their feet…or on their feet for the first time!

Linked below are agencies and organizations that exist solely or primarily to lend a helping hand to those in need, whether that need is a temporary emergency or long-term. Your Rowan County Public Library is proud to be counted among these and to serve all our patrons, regardless of situation. In addition to lending books, movies, and other media, we also check out Wi-Fi hotspot devices to provide wireless Internet access. Staff are happy to help you use our computers and even scan documents directly to email at no charge, and to print or fax for a small fee. We also provide notary public services at no cost to you; just call ahead to make sure that a notary will be available to assist you at the time of your visit.
